The BC Healthcare Collaborative Group is proud to host our
second Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness Conference.
This year’s theme is “From
Knowledge to Action: Solutions that Work”.
There are many realities facing healthcare workers and employers
today – an aging workforce, workload concerns, work/home
life balance, diminishing human resources, increased sickness
due to mental health concerns as well as rising work related
injuries causally related to patient handling, aggressive
behaviour and communicable diseases. These issues are global
in nature and require everyones' attention.
Workplace health and safety has expanded
beyond traditional occupational programs to one where a more
holistic approach of recognizing that healthy and safe workers
provide better care to their patients, residents or clients.
Research demonstrates that integrating health, safety and
wellness initiatives within the framework of regular work
helps to contribute to improved morale, participative decision
making, and decreased illness and injury. A key component
in achieving a safe and healthy workplace is the transfer
of research knowledge into practical application at the work
unit level where the positive outcomes can be sustained by
the front line staff and supervisors.
This conference is designed for health,
safety and wellness professionals, Human Resources practitioners,
supervisors/managers, facility planning personnel, union leaders,
researchers, healthcare educators, public and private healthcare
providers, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
members, and anyone with responsibilities for health, safety
or wellness in the healthcare environment
The conference will showcase many of the
initiatives underway that support an integrated approach through
research, innovative solutions and leading practices in health,
safety and wellness for the healthcare environment. It will
also provide delegates with a heightened awareness of the
issues and some practical solutions as well as networking
opportunities.
The wide variety of topics from scientific
research to practical application of strategies that work
will provide the delegates with an exciting array of knowledge
and tools to assist them in enhancing their workplace programs
with solutions that are sustainable.
