The BC Healthcare
partner associations have formed a collaborative group to
host a Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness Conference.
The conference will emphasize the following themes within
healthcare:
Workplace Safety | Prevention and Promotion | Disability
Management
Ergonomics | Safe Patient Handling | Occupational
Hygiene | Workplace Violence and Aggression | Workplace
Mental Health and Addiction | Occupational
Exposure to Infectious Diseases. The program will include
a series of papers, workshops and posters.

The goals of the 2009 Workplace Health,
Safety and Wellness Conference are:
| To share
knowledge gained through innovation, research and practice
specific to healthcare workplaces in relation to health
promotion, injury and illness prevention initiatives and
disability management to achieve the outcome of an engaged
and healthy workforce that is able to provide better patient
care. |
| To showcase research
or practice interventions resulting from an integrated
and participative approach to health and safety problems
in the workplace that are showing sustainable results. |
| To establish relationships
between other healthcare OH&S practitioners and researchers
with the goal of developing communities of practice. |
| To promote shared
ownership of health, safety and wellness amongs all parites
in the healthcare workplace. |

The objectives of this Workplace Health,
Safety and Wellness Conference are:
| To establish a bi-annual
conference for health, safety and wellness for the healthcare
sector in BC. |
| To share current and
emerging research and best practices specific to healthcare
workers and healthcare workplaces with other scientists
and practitioners on a national and international basis. |
| To provide opportunities
for sponsors to promote their products and services as
an integral component of improving the health, safety
and wellness of the healthcare workforce. |
| To provide a forum
for networking, development of relationships and exchange
of innovative ideas that can lead to future research in
this field. |
This year’s Workplace Health, Safety
and Wellness Conference will be held at the Grand Okanagan
Hotel and Conference Centre, in Kelowna, BC, September 14–
15, 2009.
